The Hole N' The Wall Lodge

FAQ

How Did We Get Started?

"Hole N’ The Wall actually started as an executive retreat and hobby farm Reminiscent of the Old West story/legend describing a place where the Hole N’ The Wall Gang (Butch Cassidy et al) found refuge. I wanted a place where no one could find me unless they knew me personally. The original idea was to have a very private place to unwind, hunt pheasants and enjoy the local wildlife undisturbed. As time went on I found adjacent ground for sale and added to the place. Concurrently, I found that there were numerous executive and hunting enthusiasts like me that need a place to go ‘hide out.’ In 2004, I decided to build a rather elaborate lodge on the property and allow gang members to congregate. I have never had a problem finding gang members as they find me. As most hunters know, there is a sort of underground communication network at work in hunting circles that functions very well." ~ Dan Wells

What Kind of Hunting is Permitted?

We promote "wild bird" pheasant hunting on the property during the regular Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) regulated season. The pheasant season starts the last Saturday of October and generally runs through the 10th of January. There is a three bird (roosters only) limit imposed by DNR also. Most all hunters that come here are good at the sport and gain as much pleasure in working their dogs and enjoying the wild life and out doors as getting their limit of birds everyday. I advise people that are looking
to shoot numbers to find hunting reserves for that purpose. We have a wonderful reserve called The Loess Hills Reserve 8 miles from here if needed. Owned and operated by a friend of mine, Steve Kovarna, this operation is one of the best in the country (Birds, Sporting Clays & Tower Shoots all available). We have partnered with Steve to offer our guests the option of hunting on the perserve. Please see our hunting page for details regarding rates and inclusions for hunting on our ground and/or the preserve.

We also allow White Tail Deer hunting. Again Iowa DNR regulations apply.

Can I Bring My Own Dogs?

Yes. We have kennels for them. We will need a current health record and a kennel cough certificate for dogs brought into our kennels.

Please visit our Hunting Gallery to view photographs of previous guests hunting at our lodge.
